The One Where I Get All Goofy and Sentimental (But Only For a Little While)

In general, I am not a sappy or sentimental person. I mean, I have a heart but I don't really get hung up or weepy over some of the things many of my friends love. Especially when it comes to songs. I am not moved by that "Christmas Shoes" song. "Butterfly Kisses" has nothing on me. And forget "Cat's in the Cradle."

But when Michelle called me last week and read me the lyrics to this song over the phone, I felt shivers running up and down my spine. And it wasn't because I was standing in line for the "Finding Nemo" ride at Disneyland and a cold breeze had run through. No,the smarmy, schmultzy lyrics had touched me-darn it.

Tonight, I bought the song on iTunes, loaded it up on the iPod that we use for Lucy's nighttime music and I sent it upstairs with David. I told him to listen to the song and rock Lucy in the rocker and I texted Michelle to tell her what I did.
She said I am evil.

David came back and he was a little, um, moved.
So I share this song with the rest of you. Especially those of you who have daughters.

"Cinderella" by Steven Curtis Chapman

She spins and she sways to whatever song plays
Without a care in the world
And I'm sitting wearing the weight of the world on my shoulders
It's been a long day and there's still work to do
She's pulling at me saying "Dad I need you!
There's a ball at the castle and I've been invited and I need to practice my dancin'
Oh please, Daddy, please!"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

She says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed
She wants to know if I approve of the dress
She says, "Dad the prom is just one week away
And I need to practice my dancin'
Oh please, Daddy, please!"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

But she came home today with a ring on her hand
Just glowin' and tellin' us all they had planned
She says, "Dad the wedding's still six months away but I need to practice my dancin'
Oh please, Daddy, please!"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

Ever wondered if you could take on a swarm of 5 year olds if you were attacked?
(Be sure to post your score on this one...I only got 16 but I think they should account for how many kids you already have to wrangle in 1 day.)

Still no baby...we have 13 days left.

  2. That totally made me cry... and tomorrow I'm using it to make Daniel weepy :) I am a super softy though. "Who I am" makes me bawl.

I can take on 28 5 year olds however (mostly due to the trampled on by a horse thing... and my mad nunchuck skills :)) However I do like seeming tough. :) (The world knows better though.)

  5. My GOODNESS!!! I knew it. I knew I shouldn't watch it. Not right now. I have small group at my house in an hour and 45 minutes, a floor to vacuum, a devotion to do, a shower to take, food to put out, coffee to prepare...

and I'm sitting here in front of the computer with tears streaming down my face. And it kind of burns because I still have sleep in my eyes. Brittney is such a Cinderella. I need to cherish the time more. Just last night I was lamenting the laundry and not-as-clean-as-I'd-like house and a negligent dinner cook and...

my kids will be gone before I know it. My Cinderella.

BETHANY!!! Why do you DO this to me?????

They say I can take on 22 five year olds. Makayla turns 5 in 2 1/2 months...we'll see then I guess.
